EMERGENCY PLANS...JUST IN CASE OF A LENGTHY SCHOOL CLOSING
1. Continue working on whatever we are doing in class. Read ahead in whichever book we are studying; annotate (again, Post-its are wonderful for this!) - consider various writing strategies and the writer's purpose. Also, create a personal vocabulary list of all unfamiliar and/or challenging words. Give the page number and then define. Work on any extended assignments that you have been given. Check our blog page and your HP e-mail account for communication from me.
2. In the event that I am extremely ill and unable to communicate with you, please complete the following:
A. In reference to the work currently being studied:
-Consider the author's purpose, and type a one page paper justifying your thoughts. Be sure to use specific details in your support (incorporate at least two textual passages). Post to your blog, or e-mail to me.
-What makes this work historically significant? Research some valid, educational sites (use our on-line services - go to the Media Center link on the HP site) and type a one - two page paper that discusses this particular work in its historical setting. Use at least one outside source. Make specific reference to both works (be sure to include source information) and incorporate at least four textual passages (two from work being studied; two from outside source). Post to your blog, or e-mail to me.
B. HSPA prep (remember, the dreaded test is in early March!!!!): visit http://www2.asd.wednet.edu/pioneer/barnard/wri/exp.htm
and choose one expository prompt (beware: there are hundreds at this site!!). Type up a two page paper that is mature and insightful. Be sure to include a main idea, supporting details, and a conclusion. Post to your blog, or e-mail to me.
C. Yay!! More HSPA prep: visit

and read all about the test! Don't even bother with the picture prompts - they are no longer on the test. Visit all the other sample tests; take them!!

Welcome, Juniors!
Hello to all my jovial juniors of The White Room! This is our new class blog where you can come and visit at any time for updates on anything of concern...possibly, the latest on the Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band tour? :) This year will be full of Bruce's "Magic" as we study British Literature and hopefully fit in some classic World Literature as well.
